For our 2022 annual Young Designer Competition we’ve received a whopping amount of 1310 entries from clever young designers all over South Africa.
We’re thrilled to introduce this winning pattern, designed by Mpumelelo Nyuswa named ‘Interconnected’. 🙂
The design is inspired by Kuhlangene which means connected in IsiZulu. It is a play of “Iziqhaza” or African ear piercings. Mpumelelo interpreted those patterns in a modern context. The circular and curved shapes convey a continuous cycle of life, a youthful spirit, and the fact that connection to people is the most important aspect of being human.
Mpumelelo Nyuswa is a 24 year old interior designer by profession and a freelance graphic designer born and raised in Durban. He values the interconnection between collaborative design and the impact it makes on society.
